[Open] Trismegistus
Who: Ssilissa, open I guess if anyone wants to wander by/be practicing at the same time
When: June 7th, mid-afternoon
Where: The arts-and-crafts pavilion-type thing
What: A claiming
Warnings: Bright shiny lights
Ssilissa had been happy to find that they did actually do some sort of alchemy here. She supposed it wasn't that surprising, really - after all, Hermes's role as the patron of alchemy had endured even beyond the widespread worship of most of the gods. Now more than ever she was especially glad her goggles and gloves had come with her when she was brought here. Not that they didn't have them here as well, of course, but her own were familiar and broken in. The goggles pulled over her eyes and the glow of the burner under the alembic in front of her made her look quite alien, even in a human body.
For a while Ssil had just been going through old, familiar reactions to make sure she hadn't lost her touch - little training things she'd been doing ever since she first began learning alchemy. The labels on some of the chemicals were different, but it was easy to work out what was what by the familiar smells and odors. There were new things here, too, but she didn't want to mess about with those just yet. She had to understand how things worked here first. On the spur of a moment, though, she thought of one of the most familiar reactions of all - the secret of the chemical wedding. It probably wouldn't do anything here, not without an engine to run, even assuming it had the same effects, but a wave of homesickness swept over her. It couldn't hurt to try, just once.
She started gathering things from the shelves, instinctively glancing over her shoulder to see whether she was being watched. The chemical wedding was a jealously guarded secret, and even here, far from most anyone who could actually profit by stealing it, she wasn't inclined to give them the opportunity. Her hands moved almost automatically through the steps, measuring out the proper elements in the proper proportions and adding them to the alembic, knowing she was on the right track by the glowing colors of the mixture under the flame's heat and a low, rising note.
Finally, the reaction was complete and the chemical wedding began in earnest - and there was a burst of golden light from the alembic. Ribbons of light, bright golden with other colors playing at the edges in an aurora, twined around Ssilissa, and she actually rose slightly off her feet as the song of the wedding surrounded her. She closed her eyes, basking in the familiar feeling as the light wound back and forth, spreading out almost like wings above her.
Sadly, the wedding couldn't continue for long, not in such a small vessel with so little fuel, but as Ssil's feet touched the floor again and she opened her eyes, she looked up to see a golden caduceus hanging in the air above her. Of course - a traveler, a pirate, and an alchemist. Who else's daughter could she be but Hermes the Thrice-Great?
