Who: Everyone
When: Saturday, 9PM
Where: the Campfire
What: Chiron has some announcements and is ready to take questions
Warnings: n/a
The campfire has remained cold the first few days the new inhabitants came to the camp. No need, really, to push any more on them than the basics. Eating in the pavillion, training at what they had to offer, sleeping in the overused beds and sleeping bags of Cabin 11 or the eerie silence of what had used to be their siblings’ homes.
But after dinner on Saturday night, Chiron, fully out as a centaur as he has been every night, tells the campers to come with him. Tonight, they’re going to have a campfire. The fires are a low purple, Chiron says, because they’re not happy. They’re nervous, they’re uncomfortable in their new home. And he’s sorry, he really is, but he can’t ask the gods to change their judgement. Still, he thinks, it’s best if everyone is comfortable.
So he has some announcements. From here on out, every night in the summer, at 9PM, there will be a campfire. Traditionally, he says, there is singing, snacks and chatter among the campers, but he understands if it doesn’t come easily. Still, it might be a good idea to get to know each other a little better--you may have to rely on the others here to survive. Each of you has skills and attributes that can aid the others in a hard time--you just need to figure them out.
Once more children get claimed, Chiron would also like everyone to choose cabin counselors. Traditionally, they’re chosen by how many quests heroes have been on, but no one has been on any yet. Otherwise there were duels. But to keep things peaceable, it might be time to try a new method. Voting, specifically. You’re new campers, and there will be more to follow, so there should be someone to lead each cabin, to attend meetings when the camp is in danger and to lead the others when it came to activities and chores.
And finally, capture the flag will resume within the month, to put your new training to the test. He’ll give more information about it when more children are claimed.
“And now,” he sighs, longsuffering and tired, “I’m sure you all have questions. I’ll answer them for you to the best of my ability. Please be patient with me--there are certain things you’re not ready to know.”
